At Hiroshima University, the IDEC Institute for Global Engagement offers the courses “Methodologies for Collaborative Learning on Regional Challenges,” “Practical Exercises for Collaborative Learning on Regional Challenges,” and the “Town & Gown Innovation Challenge” as part of the initiative to create social impact through university internationalization. These programs provide practical learning opportunities for students to explore new solutions to regional challenges.
About “future strategy meeting”
This is a casual meetup for students interested in entrepreneurship, innovation, and real‑world problem‑solving. Japanese and international students come together to exchange ideas and discuss regional and global challenges in an open, conversational setting.
Here’s what you can do at this meetup!
- Meet students from diverse backgrounds and academic fields.
- Learn about the Town & Gown initiative.
- Explore ideas for entrepreneurship and new business creation.
- Discuss regional and societal challenges in Japan.

To help more people learn about these courses and activities, we will hold an information session at Mirai‑Create on Thursday, July 16, from 18:00 to 19:30.
You’re welcome to join us with friends or on your own.

Hiroshima University has been designated as a core institution for regional revitalization under the Cabinet Office’s “Program for Strengthening Innovation Ecosystems at Regional Core Universities,” and has set the following priorities:
- Identifying regional challenges → Creating research and technology seeds → Social implementation
- Strengthening collaboration among local universities, industry, and government to develop and secure DX talent
- Enhancing the international competitiveness of regional industries and promoting innovation
Through these initiatives, students can experience the full process of identifying issues, examining solution pathways, and putting them into practice.

Since the classes are conducted using English, they are perfect for those who want more opportunities to speak English or who would like to interact with international students.

Past Activities
2025 Academic Year “Methodologies for Collaborative Learning on Regional Challenges”
The course was offered during the second term, from June 11 to July 30.
In the first session, students were introduced to the basic concepts of EIBL (Experiential and Inquiry-Based Learning) and gained a foundational understanding of what “regional challenges” are.
In the later sessions, students learned methodologies that support idea generation for addressing regional challenges.
In the final session (Session 8), each student presented the outcomes of their own inquiry and co‑creation process, based on the specific challenge they had chosen to explore.

2025 Academic Year “Practical Exercises for Collaborative Learning on Regional Challenges”
On September 27 and October 1, students carried out the practical component of the second‑term course “Methodologies for Collaborative Learning on Regional Challenges.”
On the first day, fieldwork was conducted at the Shoji Shimomi Store, where students gathered information through on‑site observation and interviews with staff, followed by group discussions on the issues they identified.
On the second day, each team refined and developed their ideas based on the insights gained on the first day and presented the outcomes of their work.

First Event Town & Gown Innovation Challenge
At the Higashihiroshima City Museum of Art, students examined the process of addressing the challenge of “generating ideas to strengthen the museum’s role as a cultural hub and platform for the city.” Based on information gathered on-site, they analyzed the problem and presented their ideas.
The program was held over two days, June 22 and 29. Ahead of the presentations on the 29th, a workshop was conducted on the 22nd.
The team selected as the Best Team proposed the idea of hosting a fashion show at the museum.
