<Promoting regional revitalization research through the full-scale implementation of the Town & Gown Initiative and the strengthening of its industry–academia–government–community network hub functions.>
In recent years, various initiatives have been implemented in Higashi‑Hiroshima City to promote multicultural exchange. However, according to survey results targeting foreign residents in the city, there is still a strong demand for opportunities to engage in multicultural interaction. To further advance these efforts, it is important not only to create comfortable spaces where anyone can participate in multicultural exchange, but also to provide opportunities for people who may not have much interest in multiculturalism to become engaged. Therefore, it is considered necessary to create third places—spaces outside of home or university—within the city where multicultural exchange can naturally occur and be visible to a wide range of people.
As a first step toward this goal, this study focuses on Hiroshima University students (including international students) and aims to clarify the following two points:

To identify the current state of third places for both Japanese students and international students.

To conduct a social experiment aimed at promoting multicultural coexistence and examine how it influences people.
