Town & Gown Institute of Innovation for the Future at Hiroshima University was launched in April 2022 as a joint education and research facility on campus to support Town & Gown Office (TGO) project. To build a new regional development model that will lead social changes for a sustainable society, we conduct research on technological challenges contributing to the SDGs, EBPM/DX research to accelerate innovation and social integration, and promote regional development research for social integration in regional fields, with the aim of fostering entrepreneurs who can create innovations and integrate them into the society.
TGIF Student Fellows’ Activities
At TGIF, student fellows play a key role in accelerating social implementation. They are engaged in practical activities in collaboration with the university, industry, and the local community, including the development and operation of on‑campus services and implementation projects led by each research division, as well as the planning and management of events.
●Maintenance and Operation of the Congestion Visualization Service
We are responsible for the front‑end design, back‑end architecture, and infrastructure development of the congestion visualization service provided through the TGO app. In collaboration with the IoT team, we also carry out ongoing maintenance and operational support.
About the Congestion Visualization Service
The service was developed as an initiative led primarily by We’s student fellows to promote digital transformation (DX) on campus and improve the convenience of university facilities and services.
In particular, it is designed to help ease congestion in the cafeteria during peak lunch hours by enabling users to check real‑time crowd levels and choose the best timing for their visit.

●Development, Maintenance, and Operation of Librarin
About Librarin
Librarin is a cross‑library search service developed by We’s student fellows to recreate the sense of “serendipitous encounters” one experiences in libraries or bookstores. Instead of searching by title or author, the service displays book covers, allowing users to browse as if they were looking at a real bookshelf. This design brings the joy of unexpected discoveries into the app experience as well.

In collaboration with the ITG team, we carry out ongoing maintenance and operational support. (For more details about the Congestion Visualization Service, please refer to the ITG section.)
