Their reports covered a wide range of fields, and the session featured active discussions that looked ahead to future developments in the coming fiscal year and beyond.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Below is a digest of the presentations delivered during the seminar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"\u7b2c16\u56deTGIF\u30bb\u30df\u30ca\u30fc\u300cTGIF\u6210\u679c\u5831\u544a\u4f1a2025\u300d\" width=\"950\" height=\"534\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_4clibVNXrY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. TGIF\u2019s Role and Future Outlook within the Town &amp; Gown Initiative: Director Onishi (TGIF)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Director Onishi provided an overview of TGIF\u2019s role as a hub connecting the university\u2019s research seeds with the needs of local government. He presented a theoretical model illustrating how reducing barriers to innovation\u2014conceptualized as \u2018friction energy\u2019\u2014can accelerate social implementation and regional development, and shared the direction for TGIF\u2019s future activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Promoting DX and EBPM through the Reboot of the TGO App: Prof. Li (TGIF)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Li presented the potential for developing a smart\u2011city ecosystem through the reboot of the TGO app. He explained that, by obtaining users\u2019 consent (opt\u2011in) for data provision and utilizing citizen data to deliver personalized services, the app could serve as a foundation for evidence\u2011based policy making (EBPM). This approach, he noted, holds significant promise for building a data\u2011driven policy infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Building a Circular and Symbiotic Community through Agrivoltaics: Prof. Komoto (TGIF)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"622\" src=\"https:\/\/tgif.hiroshima-u.ac.jp\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image_TGIF7-1-1024x622.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1051\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.646302792198681;width:808px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tgif.hiroshima-u.ac.jp\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image_TGIF7-1-1024x622.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/tgif.hiroshima-u.ac.jp\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image_TGIF7-1-300x182.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tgif.hiroshima-u.ac.jp\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/image_TGIF7-1-2000x1215.jpg 2000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Hiroshima University TGIF \u2013 Prof. Komoto<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--small)\">Prof. Komoto reported on the use of agrivoltaics (solar sharing) as an approach that simultaneously addresses the issue of abandoned farmland in hilly and mountainous areas and promotes the introduction of renewable energy. He presented a new community\u2011symbiotic model that incorporates measures such as the use of small solar panels designed to minimize visual impact and withstand strong winds, as well as the combined implementation of organic farming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Social Support, Sleep, and Oral Health among Older Adults in the Community: Prof. Naito<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Naito introduced an international comparative study aimed at preventing frailty in an ultra\u2011aged society by examining the interrelationships among social support, sleep habits, and oral health. He also reported on the progress of data collection conducted at community gathering places within Higashihiroshima and discussed future prospects for food\u2011related support through multidisciplinary collaboration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Monitoring Wildlife and Mitigating Human\u2013Wildlife Conflict through Environmental DNA: Prof. Nishibori<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Nishibori presented cutting\u2011edge sensing technology that uses environmental DNA collected from the air to identify the presence of wildlife such as bears and deer. By visualizing otherwise invisible DNA and estimating population numbers, this approach offers a promising method for developing more effective strategies to mitigate human\u2013wildlife conflict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Enhancing the Efficiency of Emergency Response through Smart Mobility: Prof. Taka<\/strong>ki<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Prof. Takaki reported the results of a pilot study that explored the use of electric kick scooters in narrow or unpaved areas where ambulances cannot enter. The findings demonstrated that deploying electric kick scooters can shorten the time for emergency personnel to reach the scene and help reduce physical fatigue. He also outlined the challenges that must be addressed for future social implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">7. The \u2018COMMON Project\u2019 Connecting the City and the University: Mr. Yamashita<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Yamashita, a staff member seconded from the Higashihiroshima City Government, explained the structure of the \u2018COMMON Project,\u2019 which systematically matches municipal challenges with academic research at the university. He introduced a stepwise certification scheme that progresses from initial support to full joint projects, providing a framework that steadily leads to the resolution of local issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Summary: Panel Discussion<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In the panel discussion moderated by Prof. Ishii, participants examined how to bridge the \u2018time\u2011scale gap\u2019 between local governments, which often seek short\u2011term outcomes, and universities, which prioritize long\u2011term research.
